RICHARD F. SMITH, JR., P.L.S., P.P, C.F.M

RICHARD F. SMITH, JR., P.L.S., P.P, C.F.M. is a professional land surveyor and has operated a land surveying firm in Morristown since 1980. Mr. Smith has been an adjunct instructor of land surveying at CCM, Rutgers University and within the New Jersey Institute of Technology Land Surveying Degree Program. He has conducted lectures for many professional and civic groups on surveying, boundary law and legal descriptions.

Mr. Smith has written several articles on surveying and professional practice published in The Coordinate Magazine, and he co-wrote Madison on New Jersey Real Property Boundary Law, 1991, LLS Publishing. He coauthored and lectured on Boundary Law in New Jersey, 1990, 1992, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006 and Road and Access Law in New Jersey, 2002, 2006, 2007 National Business Institute, Publisher, offering continuing education credits to attorneys and surveyors. He was appointed boundary commissioner by the State Superior Court of New Jersey in Bergen, Monmouth, Morris, Sussex, Somerset and Passaic counties. Richard has served four communities as their Municipal Surveyor.

Mr. Smith attended Stevens Institute of Technology and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is a fellow and past president of the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors, where he received the 1996 Surveyor of the Year award and the 2016 Lifetime Achievement award . He is a member of the National Society of Professional Surveyors. In 2010, Richard was appointed to the State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. In his capacity as Board Member, he serves nationally as a Member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors and is a Past President of the Colonial States Boards of Surveyor Registration.
